Spring into Summer Modelling Competition hosted by Castle Dargan was a huge success.
On March 19th 2008, Castle Dargan in association with RiverMedia hosted the Spring into Summer Modelling Competition. The winner of Spring into Summer was Hannah Doherty. This competition attracted hundreds of entries and was short-listed down to 32 entrants for an exclusive photo shoot at Castle Dargan.
From the 32 entrants a weekly text competition took place in the RiverMedia Group papers to determine the final list for the competition. The finalists took stage on the 19th March at Castle Dargan, making their catwalk debut. The following fashion outlets provided the outfits for the models:
• A-Wear
• Jack & Jones
• Magee
• Secrets Lingerie
• Events by Ray Michael
• Simones
• Mary Grant Designs
• Tommy Hilfiger
• Maranns & Designers at Debenhams to name but a few.
Hair stylist on the night was Liam Boland from Toni + Guy and make-up artist Jane Iredale.
Our presenter on the night was Ireland’s Top Model Glenda Gilson and co-presenter of TV3’s ever popular show Xposé also present on the night.
A host of judges, including the leading model agent Tracey Hall from The Style Academy helped in choosing the winner.
Hannah directly qualified for Miss Universe Ireland competition as Miss Castle Dargan to be held in Dublin on 25th April.
The proceeds from this event were in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation

Moving into the Golf Department
Congratulations to Course Designer Darren Clarke who won the prestigious Asian Open recently.
The Beatt Golf Newsletter by Castle Dargan Golf Course Superintendent Graeme Beatt. Firstly congratulations to Dave Donovan and Mickey Flynn for picking up the first prize of the year in the Winter League.
After a few very wet months, the course came through unscathed and is showing some vast improvement as a result of major winter projects carried out by our team. 450 metre of new cart paths have been constructed on holes 1, 2, 9 and 11 which will solve some trafficking issues and improve playability. Walls have been erected and removed on various areas of the course and over 60 trees have been transplanted from the 18th and replanted on holes 6, 13 and 11. These changes will visually improve the course.
These works have been completed ahead of schedule, due to the hard work of the greenkeepers, often in trying conditions. The greenkeeping staff continues to grow.
To keep your course looking its best, I would ask that all members pay special attention to repairing pitch marks and raking bunkers. There are many pitch marks on our greens, and we look to each visitor and especially each member to repair at least one pitch mark per green. Also please ensure that bunkers are raked after use.
Finally, we are looking forward to a successful season at Castle Dargan.
Graeme
