Castle Dargan Golf Men’s Club Notes

National 4ball inter club
On Saturday last our men's team captained by Niall Walsh took on Strandhill in the national 4ball inter club match. With 3 matches at home first up was Tony Wasyalocha and Martin Burke and took a commanding lead going 3 up at the turn as did the second pairing of Paul McGonigle and Andy Keirns also going 3 up after 9. Third out was Donal McLoughlin and Alan Taffee and they too got their noses in front going 1 up after 10. Playing away was Paul Mullen and Wilfred Burke in the first match and Aiden McGoldrick and James Davey in the second but the home team was fully loaded and won both matches to give Strandhill a 2 nil lead in the tie. The lads at home now had to do the job and Tony and Martin delivered the first point with a 5&4 win. Shortly after Paul and Andy made it two with a 4&3 win which left the match in Donal and rookie Alan's hands and the lads also delivered winning 11 and 12 and winning their match 3&2. Well done to Niall and the team for getting through to the zone semi-final.

The results of the nearest the pin at our recent fundraiser was Bernie Lawrence in the men's and Anita Carty in the ladies. Longest drives was won by Sean Carroll in the men's and Pauline Lennon in the ladies.

St. Patrick’s Day saw the launch of the 2017 Golf Year at Castle Dargan by Captains Ray O Grady and Ann Mullen. The opening mixed scramble of the year was followed with impressive drives from both Captains and champagne toast to celebrate the distances. Refreshments, music and dancing continued in the Courtyard at Castle Dargan Hotel finishing off the day nicely. We wish Ray and Ann every success and enjoyment in their Captaincy for 2017.

Winter League
The Aurivo sponsored winter league started the weekend last and a large number of entrants again this year. Players can play on either the Saturday or the Sunday and is v par. It was great to see a large turnout for the 9.30 shotgun start waiting to head out so if any player looking to pair up can meet at the golf shop on a Sunday morning. Results will be kept up to date after a few weeks in. It's not to late to enter just contact the golf shop.  It was also notable the amount of work continuing on the Course with things going ahead of schedule and it was great to see the amount of sand everywhere on the course which will only improve the course even more. Well done to all involved on making great strides to improve the golf course.

New addition
The club would like to congratulate our Vice Captain Ray O'Grady and his wife Leona on the recent birth of their daughter Sadhbh. It will be great to see Ray Back on the course  beady eyed in the coming weeks.
